For access to biostatistics consultation, please visit the SPCTRM website; the SPCTRM website will be integrated with the SCCTER website soon.

The CISD is housed in the Department of Health Research and Policy and has regular weekly meetings to discuss design issues that come up in the course of consultations.

  • STUDY DESIGN CONSULTATION
To request consultation for study design, including topics involving ethics and data collection, contact the CISD Program Manager (currently through the Program Administrator below).
  • STUDY DESIGN WORKSHOP
To become involved in the workshop, either as a mentor or trainee, please contact the workshop coordinator (currently through the Program Administrator below).

Program Purpose

The Center for Innovative Study Design (CISD) integrates efforts that are currently dispersed, including the Biostatistics Data Coordinating Center (providing design and implementation of specialized, innovative clinical study data management and visualization tools), the current biostatistics design and review capacity of the GCRC, and the CTR offerings in pre-award design consultation service. The CISD is responsible for guaranteed access to mentoring, design and biostatistics consultation, and proposal review, including the incorporation of ethics consultation provided by the Research Ethics Core.

CISD also conducts the Study Design Workshop, the purpose of which is to bring together clinical research mentors with a mixed group of trainees in a case-based mutual learning experience whose content is driven and fed by the ongoing clinical research design service.

The mentors assemble project details and enlist the help of investigators with new clinical study proposals to create case-based teaching opportunities. Investigators are invited to present their ideas and proposal at the Workshop, followed by a presentation from the mentors. A weekly two-hour session involves presentation and discussion of the case, presentation of homework assignments, and short lectures on topics related to the case.
