SCCTER Programs
Career Development & Diversity
Program Purpose
The overarching mission of the Career Development and Diversity Center (CDD) is to achieve a fundamental change in the way CTR is perceived, evaluated, and rewarded at the University, as well as to expand the diversity of faculty, trainees, and subjects participating in CTR. Following are the specific goals of the CDD:
- Establish a strong community and home for CTR by fostering interactions and networking opportunities between diverse faculty and students interested in CT research through the creation of a Clinical and Translational Medicine Incubator (CTMI) that will schedule seminars, foster communication, and encourage and support the creation of multidisciplinary teams of researchers tackling particular CTR projects.
- Establish novel approaches to faculty recruitment, promotion and retention that reward faculty engaged in CTR, helping develop institutional policies for faculty appointments and promotions that recognize team work and appropriately reward excellence in CTR.
- Expand faculty and trainee diversity through improved minority recruitment and retention, using a multifaceted approach that includes mission-based practices tailored specifically for recruiting trainees into CTR, conducting careful assessment and tracking of the rate of recruitment of women and underrepresented minorities into CTR compared to peer institutions.
