Educational Opportunities

Undergraduates

To increase the number of students in the “pipeline” of clinical and translational researchers, SCCTER is working towards increasing the number of undergraduates that are exposed to CTR opportunities. These efforts are leveraging and expanding two existing programs.

Undergraduate Academic Life

The Undergraduate Academic Life Program at Stanford is the campus nexus for involving students in research projects. Students may apply to conduct a research project with any faculty member at Stanford University, including SoM and other University faculty engaged in CTR. SCCTER will develop a formal relationship between the SoM and Undergraduate Advising and Research so that available opportunities in basic, translational, and clinical research are more easily accessed by our undergraduates. Freshman and Sophomore Seminars

The Freshman and Sophomore Seminars are small-group courses designed by faculty to create intense intellectual experiences for first- and second-year undergraduate students as they explore the methods and materials of a particular discipline.  The sophomore courses introduce students to a specific area of a department’s or program’s curriculum. SCCTER will develop a series of undergraduate seminars that focus on the impact of CTR on the practice of medicine and improvement of health. These seminars will be conducted by CTR investigators who subsequently may serve as mentors for some of their students. More »
